What are Piles?

Hemorrhoids are the term used in medicine for Piles. They are swellings made up of enlarged and swollen blood vessels in the rectum or around the anus.

Most Piles are minor, and most people aren’t even aware that they exist. However, severe cases may show up as bright red blood bleeding after passing stools, a lump or pile that is moving downward and may need to be pushed back in, and itching around the anus.

Despite the fact that Piles are widespread, the exact prevalence of this condition is unknown because many people choose to ignore their piles out of embarrassment. Nearly half of people over the age of 50 are thought to have piles, and almost half will have at least one hemorrhoid episode at some point in their lives. 1-5

Types of Piles

Depending on the location, the piles can be of two types:

  1. Internal pilesIn the rectum, internal piles can develop but are typically undetectable from the outside. However, an external pile that extends outside the anus can occasionally form.  Doctors refer to it as a prolapsed haemorrhoid.

          Medical professionals assign a four-point rating to internal piles.

  •  Both the growth and its protrusion from the anus are symptomless.
  • Regardless of whether the piles prolapse from the anus, they always retract on their own.
  • Only with physical assistance can the piles prolapse within the anus.
  • The prolapsed piles cannot be forced back into the anus.
  1. External piles These can be found at the anal opening and frequently dangle from the anus.
  • Enlargements known as external piles appear farther down your anal canal and closer to your anus.
  • They might be excruciatingly painful, especially if a blood clot is involved.

Causes of Hemorrhoids

Pile formation occurs when the veins in your anal canal swell, which can occur for a variety of reasons, including:

  • if you strain when using the restroom, such as if you have constipation or prolonged diarrhoea.
  • Becoming older weakens your anal canal, increasing the likelihood of piles.
  • maintaining a constant cough.
  • lifting big things.

Additionally typical during pregnancy are piles. When you’re pregnant, your abdomen experiences more pressure, which may contribute to their development. After you give birth, they typically get better.

There is no evidence to support the notion that stress and piles are related, despite some people’s claims to the contrary. However, having piles can be stressful.

Another theory holds that piles are more common right before or right after your period. But as of now, there is no evidence to support this.

Symptoms of Hemorrhoids

Although pain and other symptoms aren’t always brought on by piles, if you do, they could include:

  • a slimy mucus leak from your anus that could stain your underwear.

How you can treat or prevent piles?

  • Regular exercise
  • If your piles hurt, take paracetamol.
  • Take a warm bath to relieve aching and discomfort.
  • With some wet toilet paper, clean your bottom.
  • Put an ice pack in a towel to ease pain.
  • Gently reposition a pile inside
  • keep your bottom dry and spotless.
  • To keep your poo soft, consume plenty of fluids and fibre.
  • To prevent constipation, limit alcohol and caffeine-containing beverages like tea, coffee, and soda.

Which food did we include in Piles?

It is not sufficient to eat a balanced diet that only includes healthy foods to maintain a healthy diet.A balanced diet should consist of 50% fruits and vegetables, 25% whole grains, and 25% meat and other foods.

  • Kale: Kale is one of the healthiest leafy green vegetables because it is high in the vitamins C, A, K1, and B6, as well as dietary fibre, minerals, and antioxidants.

Foods To Avoid If You Have hemorrhoids Symptoms:

  • Deep-fried and processed food items: Fast food, frozen meals, and other processed foods are heavy and challenging to digest. They contain fewer nutrients and more salt and unhealthy fats.Constipation and poor digestion are caused by these.
  •  Spicy food: Love eating spicy food? However, if you have piles, be cautious because this could cause more painful bowel movements. If your piles are already inflamed or bleeding, eating your favourite pepperoni pizza or Schezwan fried rice may be problematic.
  •  Alcohol: Reduce your alcohol consumption, please. Alcohol has a dehydrating effect on the gut in addition to upsetting the balance of nutrients during digestion.
  • Dairy products: Consuming dairy products frequently causes gas formation, stomach cramps, and constipation. When the disease is in an outbreak or flare-up, milk, cheese, and other dairy products can be more problematic. Pay attention to the amount of dairy you consume every day.
  • High salted foods:Enjoy snacking on salted peanuts and your favourite packet of tortilla chips?Can’t resist the delicious hams, sausages, and canned goods? Consider your options carefully because their high salt content can lead to water retention and eventually affect the blood vessels, including the ones that are causing you trouble at the other end of your body.
  • Refined grains:White rice, white bread, bagels, and other refined grains that you buy in the grocery store have lost their bran component and are very low in fibre. Choose whole grain over refined varieties.
