The 7 Best Games With Bad Graphics

Despite their quality, some games are really, really not pretty.

Remember those games that you stayed away from at all because of their really bad graphics? Maybe not, because they obviously don’t stick in your memory as much as God of War and Red Dead Redemption II, which are some of the most beautiful titles released on PS4.

But by not paying attention to these visually unattractive games, you may have missed excellent work: it’s not because a game is not beautiful, that it is not good. Our list of these 7 excellent games with bad graphics will prove it to you.

There is not only beauty that counts in life. Even if the year 2022 is going to be an eyeful, you have every reason to be interested in those works that put you off because of their graphics. Even if some of them are really old, others are available on the current generations of consoles.

It is difficult to advise these games since the realization and the graphics are still important in a game, but we recommend that you at least look into them.

On the other hand, if you really want to make your friends and family want to try video games, we recommend that you offer them these games that are extremely compelling because of their story. Without further ado, here are our top best video games with terrible graphics:

1. Deadly Premonition

Deadly Premonition is a video game UFO. The realization of the game is simply catastrophic. The textures are poor, the framerate unstable, the bugs are legion and the modeling of the characters mediocre. In spite of all these defects, Deadly Premonition is really worth the detour, so much it is atypical. Its unique atmosphere is captivating and its really well-written scenario reminds us of Twin Peaks, the work of David Lynch. The Switch version of the game slightly corrects the technical errors of Deadly Premonition, which remains nevertheless difficult to recommend.

2. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

Released in relative anonymity in Europe, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II is one of the best J-RPG on PS4. Its story, which directly follows the first opus, is exciting, its turn-based combat system really exhilarating and the soundtrack simply incredible. But the game’s realization is a bit disappointing. It feels like the title is a simple remaster of the PS Vita version. The scenery is sadly empty, the textures are old-fashioned and the setting is extremely stale.

3. Nier

Nier has paid dearly for its more than average realization. The graphics don’t necessarily make you want to dive in, and once in the game, the technique is also a bit lacking. It’s a pity, because Nier is an excellent title with an engaging scenario and an unforgettable soundtrack. Fortunately, the title has been re-released in a much more attractive version this year and is one of the best RPGs to play in 2021.

4. Turok: Dinosaur Hunter

The number of gamers who looked at Turok for its graphics when it was released on Nintendo 64 in 1997 can be counted on one hand. However, the FPS is one of the best of its time. Its Jurassic atmosphere that puts the player in confrontation with dinosaurs is of the most beautiful effect. The immersion and the nervous gameplay are the strong points of Turok. An excellent game with ugly graphics, even for the Nintendo 64, which is still talked about thanks to its legendary games sold for astronomical sums at auction.

5. Minecraft

The graphical quality of Minecraft is quite secondary, but we have to admit that the game is not really pretty. Of course, this doesn’t prevent you from spending hours and hours on the cult game, the best-selling game in history even today.

6. Mount & Blade

As you may have noticed, Mount & Blade is not really beautiful. But if you can get past its very average graphics, you will discover a quality action RPG. The game takes place in a medieval setting and leaves a lot of freedom to the player in his progression, without forgetting to put the emphasis on the fights, which are very enjoyable. A real nugget in spite of its technical problems.

7. Fallout 3

Putting Fallout 3 in this ranking might be considered harsh. With its very large play area, the title obviously can’t offer the most beautiful graphics of its generation. But still, the animations are hard to see, the aliasing is very present on the console and the textures are quite rough. However, these flaws don’t weigh much next to the undeniable qualities of the game.
