This town is the starting point for treks towards Kalavantin Durg or Prabal Fort. From Thakurwadi, it takes approximately 30-60 minutes to trek to Prabalmachi village. Once you have reached Prabalmachi, you can begin trekking to Prabalgad. It is not difficult to trek to Prabalgad. Takes approximately 1.5 hours, depending on your fitness level and how much rest you have. It is a great destination for all kinds of weather.

To do some amazing treks you must try giving the beas Kund trek a try.

Prabalgad

The Raigarh district is home to Prabalgad Fort. It is a stunning fort in the Western Ghats’ Sahyadri mountains. It is 700m above sea level and offers views of Kalyan fort or Irshalgad.

Its historic value was due to its role as a watchtower. The fort was revived under Shivaji’s leadership and is now a refuge from the city’s draining life. The Prabalgad area is covered in thickets of lush vegetation. The area is enhanced by waterfalls that appear in the dense vegetation and mist covering the mountains during monsoons.

Monsoons bring more beauty to the area, with waterfalls appearing from dense forests and mountains that are covered in fog. When it rains, trekking should be avoided. From the summit, you can see stunning views of the Konkan region as well as the neighboring mountain ranges.

How do you get there?

  • Take the Mumbai Central train to reach Panvel station on Harbour Line. From the Panvel bus terminal, take a state bus to Thakurwadi. Thakurwadi is the base settlement for Prabalgad. From there, you will need to hike up to Prabalmachi. This is where the trek starts.
  • Take the Mumbai-Pune Expressway via Vashi to reach Shedung Phata Panvel. Turn left from Shedung and continue towards Thakurwadi.
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai is the closest airport to Prabalgad. From the airport, you can take a state-run bus to Panvel and then continue to Thakurwadi.

The best weather for trekking:

  • Prabalgad can be reached best between October and January due to the monsoon season immediately following. Rain brings the rain-fed soil to life, and lush green forests become clean.
  • The monsoon is not a good time to hike because of the risk of falling and the rough terrain. A lot of insects and leeches live in the trees, which is another reason. Due to the constant rain, the journey can be difficult and tiring. This excursion can still be done during monsoon but will require more effort. The breathtaking views from the summit of the forest are worth the effort.
  • The summer is when the earth loosens and the hike becomes a bit more slippery. It’s still a pleasant and calm day. You can only enjoy the adventure of trekking if you take sufficient care and take precautionary steps. The fort’s rugged terrain and rocky paths draw adventure seekers.
