New Subaru XV information revealed! Two key drivers to meet market trends

The Subaru XV, which is positioned as a crossover SUV, has been caught on the road in camouflage overseas, and foreign media reports suggest that the new model is expected to arrive in the second half of 2022. The Japanese media has no further information on the power unit of the new model. Apart from the e-Boxer, which will definitely be available in some markets, the traditional fuel engine option will not be dropped but will be replaced by a newly developed 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine to meet the current market trend.

It is a near certainty that the XV will be offered with the e-Boxer, but will it be further improved? Or even a PHEV model for every market? No news yet. Even though in many advanced countries, increasingly stringent emissions and fuel consumption regulations have made it necessary for many manufacturers to offer models with a PHEV unit in order to pass the standards. The e-Boxer is an electric motor with 16.7ps and 6.7kgm of torque, and in the US the XV (locally known as Crosstrek) is available as a PHEV plug-in electric-petrol model, with a power unit derived from the Toyota THS system.

So it is almost certain that the overhauled XV will be available as an e-Boxer, but will it be further improved? Or even a PHEV model for every market? No news yet. However, another key point mentioned in the Japanese press report is that not only will it continue to be offered with conventional fuel power, but in line with the trend towards smaller displacement turbo engines for crossover vehicles, it will be powered by a newly developed 1.5-liter turbo engine, rather than the 1.8-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder turbo engine shared with the new Levorg.
