Suryakumar Yadav was born on 8th January 1995 in the small town of Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. His father Basant Yadav is a former cricketer and currently working as a cricket coach.

Suryakumar started his cricketing career at the age of 10 by playing for his local club KKCC. From there he moved to the Uttar Pradesh under-15 team and then to the Uttar Pradesh under-19 team. In February 2016, he made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh against Uttarakhand. He played six further first-class matches that season, scoring 213 runs at an average of 36.66.

In February 2017, Yadav made his List A debut for Uttar Pradesh against Bengal. He played two further List A matches that season, both of which were against Jharkhand. In those matches, he scored 166 and 102 not out respectively.
