Manufacturing Of Steel Toe Boots

by Uneeb Khan

If you are one of those people who have a difficult job where they are subjected to factors that involve risks such as heavy objects falling, working with industrial machines, industrial assemblies, among others, you must be required to wear safety boots.

In today’s article we want to illustrate how a typical leather safety boot is made step by step.

The first step that is carried out in the manufacture and assembly of the men’s boots steel toe, is to select the leather which must be tanned leather that comes from the most resistant part of the cow, leather is generally used because it does not scratch or tear easily. , in addition to being soft to mold to the skin and also porous so that the skin can breathe. Once the leather is selected, it is cut with a mold, which is located on top of it, a hydraulic press that with a pressure of 15 tons is in charge of making the cut, making a clean cut, then the different parts of the leather are sewn. For this process, a special machine with two needles is used to make more resistant double seams.

Assembling the steel toe boots

To ensure resistant seams, a stitch is made with a reinforced polyester thread that passes through a hot wax hopper at the top of the sewing machine and that tightens the thread so that the seam does not come apart once this process is finished. the eyelets and hooks are placed on the leather, these elements are made of Nickel-plated Copper, simultaneously a temporary loop maintains the standard of the boot while the insoles are made, so that the insoles are strong but comfortable they are cut and overlapped several layers of foam, then a nylon trim surrounds the insoles to attach them to the rest of the boot, then to hold the shape of the boot while the leather is sewn a plastic foot the same size as the boot is attached to the insoles.

The front of the boot is treated with steam to loosen the leather and place the steel plate, then a hot glue is applied to the steel shell, this glue is soft and flexible and does not leave rough edges on the foot, a press keeps all the pieces in place, the leather is placed on top of the steel and pressed to adapt it to its shape, then the insoles are attached to the leather by the nylon trim and more steel is added inside the boot, it is a steel insole sealed inside a flexible bubble that helps maintain the shape of the boot and supports the foot, the flexible material is a mixture of hot cork and glue.

When this mixture dries it achieves excellent cushioning, the cork and insole are sealed inside the boot with a midsole, then covered with a layer of Polyurethane glue which is adhered to the boot in a heat press, then they sew and cut out the midsoles, now it is time to place the sole or the rubber that will be in contact with the ground, these are glued with a special material that is activated with heat through a manual heater, the sole is attached to the rest of the boot in a press that achieves waterproof and permanent joints. Finally, the leather is polished and the laces are placed, which are usually made of Nylon and Polyester.

This is the manufacturing procedure of a standard safety boot, but new techniques, new technologies and new materials have already modified some steps of these procedures, the combination of materials means that different procedures are carried out to manufacture more flexible boots, lighter and stronger.
