The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) is the state pollution control board of Maharashtra. It was established in 7 September 1970 under the Maharashtra Prevention of Water Pollution Act,1969. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) is responsible for implementing the Environmental Protection Act 1986, the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 and other related Acts.

The MPCB is also responsible for managing sewage treatment plants and ensuring that they are properly maintained, operated and inspected by authorized officers. The MPCB also issues licenses to establishments which pollute air or water.

The MPCPB also performs monitoring activities such as sampling water bodies, air quality, noise pollution and emission levels etc. It also carries out studies on land-use planning and biodiversity conservation activities in India’s National Parks and Protected Areas like tiger reserves, elephant corridors etc..

Responsibility of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board

 The MPCB is responsible for monitoring and controlling air pollution. Amongst its other functions, it monitors ambient air quality, issues licenses to industries and other establishments which pollute local air, supervises construction sites and incinerators for industrial waste management, conducts research on environmental issues etc.

The MPCB has been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that all pollution control measures are implemented properly. It also has various roles such as issuing licences to polluting industries, setting up air quality monitoring stations in their vicinity and providing information about their performance on a regular basis.

Rules and regulations for Maharashtra Pollution Control Board

In accordance with the provisions of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Act, 1970, the Central Pollution Control Board has framed norms relating to control and prevention of air pollution from industrial sources and vehicles. These Rules will be applicable to all factories in Maharashtra subject to certain conditions.
