How To Make Tea

by Uneeb Khan

Tea is easily the best thing that we can sit with in the mornings or have a relaxing time with in the evening. It’s a social gathering enhancer because the way you can bond over a cup of tea, be it at home or abroad, is unlike anything else. So how do we make tea? Not everyone is blessed with the super skills of making good tea. That’s why they often need to search for “tea near me” and land at dunkin donut tea.

While all that is good, one should also know how to make it at home. In this piece, we will be sharing how you can make different types of tea at home.

Tea Has Many Varieties

You should know that tea leaves have five different types. They are differentiated by how they are treated, dried, and rolled to be ready to transform into a satisfying cup. There are also different ways to use the same leaves!

These are the five different types of tea you might find when you search for “tea near me”:

  • Green tea (including matcha)
  • White tea
  • Herbal tea
  • Oolong tea
  • Black tea

Interesting Fact

Did you know that the majority of the times when we drink tea, we are drinking a blend. This means that it has flavors and elements from various flowers, spices or other flavors to give it the final flavor. The methods we will share below can be used by all the different types of tea leaves. However, they have their specific brewing times. For example:

  • Green tea: one to two minutes
  • Black tea: two to three minutes
  • Herbal, oolong, and white tea: three to five minutes

Knowing the time you ended to brew them for is important because it can determine whether the taste is excellent or it is more on the bitter or weak side. Besides that, before you learn all the ways, you should know that clean water is the trick!

Tea Bag Tea

The easiest way to make tea is using a tea bag and here is how to go down that road:

  1. Put the tea bag in your favorite cup. For a stronger taste put two.
  2. Use fresh water and bring to a boil in a kettle or a saucepan.
  3. Once the water is ready, add it into the cup and let the teabag remain in the cup depending on the brew time of your type of leaves.
  4. Removing the tea bag is important, don’t just let it remain.
  5. Add your choice of additions, it can be sugar, powder milk, actual milk or other herbal leaves.

Loose Leaf Tea

If you’re interested in making loose leaf tea then you need a tea infuser. Often a single cup tea infuser is available for cheap or you would need a kettle that comes with a tea infuser inside it which is usually available on Amazon. Once you have that, continue following the steps detailed below:

  1. Know the servings you want to make and check the box for the amount of tea you need according to that.
  2. Boil your fresh water accordingly.
  3. Once your water has come to a boil proceed to pour it over the tea infuser or you can lower the tea infuser into the boiling pot if it is safe after which you let it seep based on the brewing time.
  4. The tea infuser’s work is done, let it come out.
  5. If you’re into it, add milk to it, your choice of sweetener or a slice of citrus!

Iced Tea

Iced tea is a whole other phenomenon. It is usually made with black tea but iced tea is also excellent with green tea using a herbal base. You can make it in a big batch or a single serving using the steps given below:

For A Bigger Serving

  1. Bring your desired amount of fresh and clean water to a boil. After this, you can add the water over 2 tea bags or a tea infuser filled with two loose-leaf servings based on your preference.
  2. Whatever choice of tea leaves you’re using you should sleep according to that.
  3. For a stronger or weaker flavor reduce or increase the time accordingly.
  4. Remove the tea bags or the infuser once the time is complete.
  5. Add sweetener of your choice or milk.
  6. Now you need cold water and ice according to the quantity of tea you made.
  7. Store it and have it with your guests!

Single Serving

  1. Add the boiled water over 1 tea bag or a tea infuser filled with 1 loose-leaf serving depending on what you like.
  2. Let it remain inside based on the time required for your tea leaves.
  3. Stronger flavor? Let it remain for a minute more. Weaker flavor? Take it out half a minute earlier.
  4. Remove after stirring effectively.
  5. Add your choice of additions.
  6. Once cooled enough, add it over ice!

*Tip: let it cool a bit otherwise as soon as you add it over ice, the ice will melt and you’ll get a strange mush of watery flavors.

Cold Brew Tea

Cold brew tea is also one of the most popular styles of tea because it can be made without a stove and its taste is smooth yet the caffeine kick is effective!

  1. For cold brew tea you need to know that you need 1 cup more than the amount you want. For example, if you want to make 4 cups then you add 5 cups of tea.
  2. Pour the water over the tea leaves of your choice and then you need to cover the pot and let it remain in the fridge for a few hours. The longer you steep the tea, the stronger the flavor will be. Some people even let it brew overnight in the fridge.
  3. Once you remove it, pour it over ice and enjoy it with the additions you want!

All these styles of making tea tickle people’s fancy and you need to know which kind of taste is up your alley. Experiment and find your fit!
