Santa is a recognizable facet; the deal is easy for many kids. Santa Claus will come by with presents if you behave well all year round.

While Santa Claus is well-known worldwide, his counterpart, Krampus, is a lesser-known character. This much less cheerful character takes care of all the naughty kids by handing out coal instead of candy.

Learning to draw Krampus is a great way to enjoy some holiday spirit with a darker twist.

This tutorial will show you how to recreate a beautiful portrayal of this sinister character.

How to Draw Krampus

Step 1

Krampus takes many forms depending on the cultures depicting him, but his most common appearance is a monstrous figure with horns.

This is the interpretation we will give in this guide on how to draw Krampus.

We’ll start with her face, and you can start with rounded shapes for her eyes and then some sharply curved eyebrows on top.

Next, we’ll use many curved lines to add a detailed face around the eyes. We’re also going to draw some big pointed ears containing interior details.

Step 2

In this second phase of your Krampus drawing, you’ll add his famous horns and other facial features.

For the horns, we use many curved lines to create flat, rounded sections that connect to form the horns.

They are quite large and curved, as shown in our reference image.

Next, we’ll add some detail to her eyes and face, and you can complete this step by pulling her long, curvy tongue out of her mouth.

Step 3

We move a little bit away from the face and now draw his first arm in this step of our guide on drawing Krampus.

His arms are big, thick, and hairy, so we’ll use some jagged lines to depict him.

This arm will extend to the left and grab the legs of an unfortunate child we will draw soon.

Once this arm is drawn, we can proceed to the fourth step of the guide!

Step 4

In the previous part of this drawing of Krampus, we drew the legs of the baby holding Krampus, and in this part, we will finish drawing him.

It’s hanging upside down.

When this baby is drawn, you can put everything back as it was, and we can move on.

Step 5

For the fifth part of this Krampus drawing guide, we’ll depict the barrel on its back. You can start by drawing curved lines for the straps holding it there.

You can then draw the barrel yourself, and this is made up of many thin pieces of wood connected by a metal band that holds them together near the middle.

You can also draw the other arm in this step before continuing.

Step 6

Another unfortunate victim is added to the Krampus extraction in this next phase!

The next child will be a little girl sitting on her back in the barrel, and she sure doesn’t look happy to be there!

Luckily, it’s going in the right direction this time, so you don’t have to keep going. Be sure to draw her coiled tail so we can continue with the final details and elements in the next step.

Step 7

Before we get to the final stage of this Krampus drawing guide, we still need to draw some final elements.

In this part, we will add their legs, which look similar to goats. Use many smaller curved lines to make it look furry like you did for his arms.

Then, to finish, draw some rounded hooves on the ends.

Step 8

You are now ready to complete this Krampus drawing with some colors! For Krampus himself, we used different shades of grey for his fur.

The shaft and straps are brown, so we used lighter colors for the children’s clothing.

These colors are just a few that you could use for your design, but feel free to use other ones you like!

Your Krampus Drawing is Finished!
