Many fictional stories also feature magnificent castles; it can be fun to imagine what your yard might look like. Drawing a cartoon castle is a great way to do it! In this guide, we will show you how to design your lock creation, and then you can add your features and ideas too!

How to Draw A Cartoon Castle

Step 1

We’ll start drawing the castle structure in this first step of our how to draw a cartoon castle guide! In addition, you can see two high portions in our reference image, which are slightly rounded on the sides. Below them, there are some straight lines.

These forms are common on castle walls and are known as battlements. There are minor details on these squares’ sides to show the depth. So try to reproduce these details as they appear in our example! Finally, we’ll add a few dots throughout the lock design to make it more structured, so it’s time for step 2.

Step 2

This second step of the cartoon castle drawing focuses on adding more sections to the castle. First, we’ll add a thin section over each of the high-side panels, and these will have even more of those square pinnacles.

Next, we will add another section between these two side parts, which will be the tallest ever. Add a thin piece of pinnacles to the top of this section, and then we can continue!

Step 3

In step 3, we will continue building the elements of this castle. First, we’ll add a wide, pointed section over each lock section. These are drawn with straight diagonal lines culminating in slightly rounded tips.

Next, we’ll draw a section of land below the castle, with a hilly path leading down from the middle. There will also be some grassy sections with some bushes on either side, and this will finish step 3.

Step 4

Your design is now coming together! This step of our guide on drawing a cartoon castle focuses on adding details to the sections you’ve already outlined. First, we’ll add a grid pattern on the pointed cone sections above each section.

We will also include some rectangular brick patterns. Next, we’ll draw some smaller brick patterns onto the path from the previous step to complete this step.

Step 5

This cartoon castle drawing step focuses on adding more elements. You can draw some oval shapes for the door and some textures of wooden planks. Finally, draw more rectangular brick patterns on the castle surface, then continue with the final details in the next step!

Step 6

We are now ready to finalize this design as we add the details. So you can end up with some coloring fun in the last step! First, we’ll add a waving flag at the top of each part of the roof. These are drawn with curved lines to create the look of the banner fabric.

Next, we’ll add a window to each section. These windows have a slightly curved sill at the base, while the windows are drawn with oval lines. When the final details are added, feel free to add additional information and ideas!

Step 7

The final step in this how-to-draw cartoon castle guide is fun! It is the step where you can add some color to your creation, which is an excellent way to improve your design. In our reference image, we used muted reds for the pointed parts of the roof, so we went with a few different shades of brown for the rest of the design.

A few great yellows and greens complemented the final elements and created an intriguing image! You can use similar colors, change them up a bit, or even pick entirely new colors with yours.

We think some watercolors would be perfect for a softer, fairytale look to the image, but what will you choose when coloring it? We are excited to see what you desire!
