How Many Countries in the World Can You Visit

There are approximately 195 countries in the world, give or take a few, depending on your definition of “country.” Of course, not all of them are easy to visit. There are a number of factors that can make a country inaccessible, such as political instability, a lack of infrastructure, or simply being too dangerous to travel to.

So how many countries can the average person reasonably hope to visit in their lifetime? That’s a bit harder to answer, since it depends on a lot of individual factors like age, health, wealth, and vacation time. But let’s say an ambitious traveler could realistically visit 50 different countries over the course of their lifetime.

That might sound like a lot, but keep in mind that there are nearly 200 countries out there—so 50 is really only scratching the surface! Of course, some people will end up visiting more than 50 countries, and some will visit fewer. It all comes down to personal circumstances and preferences.

Some people just don’t have the time or money to travel extensively, while others get bitten by the wanderlust bug early on and spend their lives criss-crossing the globe. No matter where you fall on that spectrum, remember that there’s no “right” way to travel – just get out there and explore as much of this amazing world as you can!
