How Do I Fix My Epson WF-3640 Error Code 0x97?

Every month at the beginning of the year, I check my office equipment and other items in my home office. All requirements must be addressed, upgraded, calibrated, or replaced are inspected and logged. This is where the problem started. After going through my standard work tools and ‘tools,’ I updated my antivirus software a few days ago. Everything seemed to be okay and was working until the printing device (Epson WF-3640) began flashing errors every time I printed something. The message was: error code 0x97.

I’m wondering if this is related to the update for my antivirus. Another issue is my printer was no longer covered under warranty just a couple of days recently. Updated firmware was not a solution to the problem. When I print my printer, it prints 1 page, then stops and flashes error code 0x97. The paper is ejected but never prints, then flashes the error message again. It was frustrating! With no warranty, I’m facing an estimated $200, or maybe more significant. After a search on the forums and websites, I managed to resolve the issue, but only after I ran into a few additional issues. Here are some tips I’ve learned to resolve the problem.

Best Solution:

If your printer’s protected by warranty, you can call their customer service to discuss the issue. Contact: (02) 441 9030, then ask them to assist you on how to fix the issue. Why would you call rather than try these fixes on your own? If the support cannot fix the problem, you may have the option to request a replacement. Error 0x97 can be a hardware problem, and it could mean your printer is dead. They will send you replacement printers to make the most of your guarantee. It’s legit.

Fixes:

Connect and disconnect your printer.

This fix is to stop all print jobs and remove any jammed paper. It’s straightforward and also works for other printers; after getting rid of the papers, remove all printer cables and all other devices connected to it. Everything connected to it, including USB cables, cable wires, power cords, and cartridges for ink. The power button is pressed to turn off any remaining power from the printer. Do this for 60 minutes. After that, connect and restart everything. Switch on the printer and try a test print to check for improvements.

Did it work? – NO. I did print two pages, and the error came back. Then I had to fix 2.

Printing On and Off

It’s identical to solution no.1. Disconnecting the plugs and cables is necessary. Allow the printer to sit for 5 minutes; after that, hit the power button and hold it for 30 minutes. Hold the power button while connecting all cables. It is possible that you need help from someone in this case. Press your power switch for another 60 seconds, then release. Print a test and observe any modifications.

Was it successful? Yes! It seems that this solution worked. But I’m going to include some tried and tested solutions and other sources. This might assist.

Clean printer head

In certain instances, the error can be caused by clogged printheads. Therefore, the best remedy is to clean it. Shut off the printer, and then access the cartridge compartment for ink. Remove and release the cartridges of ink.

Cleaning materials:

  • Clean lint-free cloth
  • Clean water

Wet the cloth, then place it onto the track in the center (where the printer head is moving). Place the cloth on the track for a couple of hours. It will absorb all dried ink. Clean the paper and then dry the printhead. Install the cartridges again and take the print.

I also heard that the issue could be caused by malware. Install or update your malware protection to ensure.
