Have questions about the ‘House of the Dragon’ and the ‘Rings of Power? We can help

Excited about series that are about to be released?

Swords and sorcery will soon be on your TV Screens.

These series are a huge investment of time and money, all in the hope of creating another pop culture sensation like “Thrones,” which aired its last episode in 2019.

Are you unsure of your Numenor from the Essos or your Velaryons and Harfoots? We answer all your questions about TV’s summer fantasy.

Why are ‘House of the Dragon” and ‘Rings of Power?

It’s just good old-fashioned business rivalry. Amazon worked on the “Rings” adaptation for over a decade and announced in September this year that it would be premiering Sept. 2. HBO spent similar years searching for the successor to “Thrones,” and finally announced this year that it would premiere Sept. 2. Martin’s fantasy world. HBO had announced the Aug. 21 debut date earlier this year, beating “Rings’ by less than two weeks.

What does HBO’s “House of the Dragon” actually mean?

e “Dragon,” based on Martin’s encyclopedialike book “Fire & Blood”, tells the story of one struggle for power during Targaryens reign. Is it the king’s only child or his brother who should inherit the throne?

Producers have already revealed that the first season will feature a substantial time jump. This means that some characters will be played both by younger and older actors.

What about Amazon’s “Rings of Power”?

J.R.R. wrote a limited amount of material for the Amazon series. We saw the “”Third Age” in “Rings” or “Hobbits” movies and books, is described extensively in “The Silmarillion”, an encyclopedialike tome.

This is Middle-earth’s 4,000-year-old period before “The Hobbit” and includes the forging of the power rings – the source of the series name. The series will include stories about Numenor, an Atlantis-like kingdom, and tales of elves, dwarves, and hobbit-like Harfoots. However, there are no hobbits. Sauron, the villain, created the One Ring of Power, will also be prominently featured in the series.

Are any old characters going to appear too?

No.

“Dragon” has no character overlaps, so there are no repeat actors. Miguel Sapochnik was one of the producers and creators of the original series.

Is it possible that ‘Rings of Power” really cost $500 Million?

Fantasy epics such as “Dragon” or “Rings”, are expensive in any situation, but “Rings,” has an additional expense in its budget. Amazon paid $250 million to acquire the rights. This is a very high price in Hollywood. HBO didn’t have this problem with additional “Thrones content.”

Which fantasy series will prevail?

It’s unclear!”Rings” & “Hobbits” have grossed billions worldwide at the box office. It’s been three years, however, since “Thrones,” and eight years since the last (and not so well received) “Hobbit”, has passed. It is difficult to gauge the 2022 appetite for these two worlds. Although ratings will show how many people tune in to “Dragon,” which HBO expects to be much lower than the peak of “Thrones,” streaming services such as Amazon don’t share their internal numbers. It will be difficult to see if “Rings,” which has attracted enough viewers to justify its extraordinary cost, can attract enough eyes from the outside.

Is there another fantasy series that is joining the party?

You can watch some of them already. e Amazon made a bet fantasy-wise and launched “The Wheel of Time”, a series that was based on Robert Jordan’s books. Other major fantasy rivals include Netflix’s “The Witcher”, and “Shadow and Bone”, more HBO “Thrones” spinoffs, including one about Kit Harington and Jon Snow, and upcoming Disney+ series “Willow,” Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and “Eragon”.

What if fantasy isn’t for me? What should I do?

It’s unlikely! It’s unlikely that you will have a similar experience with “Thrones” and the other “Rings films.
