Dr. Kumar was born and raised in Merrillville, Indiana, and has enjoyed the same community his entire life. After graduating from Merrillville High School, he attended the University of Southern Indiana, where he majored in Biology with a minor in business administration. However, upon graduation, Dr. Kumar decided to pursue medicine as his life-long career. He went on to graduate from Indiana University School of Medicine, followed by completion of his urology residency at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Urology and currently maintains staff privileges at multiple hospitals throughout the Los Angeles area. Dr.

Studying In College:

Throughout my time in college, I gained a vast amount of knowledge and insights that prepared me for medical school and eventually, life as a urologist. These lessons have been invaluable both inside and outside the classroom, in many different aspects of my career as a physician.

Choosing Medical School:

Do you want to be a doctor? this was the question that shaped my entire life and opened my eyes to the great field of medicine. Dr.Kumar grew up in Crown Point, IN, and graduated from Merrillville High School before pursuing a degree in Biology, with a minor in business administration from the University of Southern Indiana. He then enrolled at Indiana University Medical School in Indianapolis and after four years, obtained his medical degree with honors as well as became board certified as a urologist.

Becoming A Doctor:

Like many other pre-med students, Dr. Kumar spent the first few years of college exploring various career paths and opportunities before deciding on what he wanted to do with his life and completing his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Southern Indiana. Over the next several years, he would go on to attend medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine followed by a surgical residency at Lutheran Hospital in Indianapolis and urology training at UCLA Medical Center before opening up his private practice in Westchester, CA—where his work continues today. One of the most satisfying parts about being a doctor is the level of connection with patients because they are entrusting you with their health and helping them live better lives; that feeling only grows when someone recognizes you from your hometown or old high school!

Starting My Own Practice:

I chose urology because it’s not only a specialized field but a subspecialty that’s right up my alley: understanding and treating people with male issues. Dr. Kumar said The best thing about practicing urology is being able to see the immediate effects of what I do on the people in my life and my patients.
I knew I wanted the experience of running my own practice, so when an opportunity came along in 2004 for me to be one of six urologists at Rush North Shore Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, I jumped at it! As our medical director at Northshore has been a blessing.

Why I Chose To Be A Specialist:

The average American will live for seventy-four years old, and some people are living much longer than this. In addition, we are now living in a globalized society where the world population is skyrocketing at an alarming rate, leading us to realize that healthcare is one of the most pressing issues in today’s society. As the populations grow older and more demanding, we as doctors must adapt to meet their needs by better understanding their health behaviors and habits in order to provide them with the care that would best suit them as individuals.

Creating A Non-Profit Organization:

Creating a nonprofit organization can be an excellent way for you to utilize your skills and contribute something positive and meaningful to your community, while also making a living doing what you enjoy. However, there are some steps that go into starting one from scratch:
1) Consider the purpose of the nonprofit-
Is it intended for fundraising? Is it going to run social service programs or serve as a lobbying group? You should know this so that the work you do can match the organization’s goals.

The Future Of Healthcare And Medicine:

The introduction of the Affordable Care Act and the technological advances that allow easy access to information have completely changed the healthcare industry. Providers are transitioning away from treating patients in hospitals and clinics to providing medical care in their homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. The four major components that provide people with a high quality of life are good food, a safe environment, community ties (meaning feeling included), and affordable transportation services; we need everyone involved in healthcare to help make sure we are providing these for all populations.
