Old Town (Kaleici)

Kaleici, Antalya’s Old Town, is a lovely place to explore on foot, with its narrow cobbled streets, historical buildings and atmospheric Turkish restaurants and cafes. It’s worth getting up early to explore Kaleici at dawn when it is at its most atmospheric (and quietest).

Just outside the Old Town is Hadrian’s Gate, built in 130 AD to celebrate the Roman Emperor Hadrian’s visit to Antalya. Hadrian’s Gate leads into the old city of Kaleici. On the other side of Hadrian’s Gate is the ancient clock tower (saat kulesi), which was built in the 18th century. Nearby is an interesting archaeological museum with Roman artefacts from sites around Antalya Province.
