Acer Chromebook 514

by Uneeb Khan

The Acer Chromebook 514 is the latest version of Chromebook that looks and feels like the Acer Swift, which is Acer’s mid-range Windows line.

Design Features of Acer Chromebook 514:

The Acer Chromebook 514 has a similar screen, build quality, and internals to the Swift 1, but it runs the Chrome operating system instead of Windows and has less storage to fit the much lighter OS. Even though it has some problems with its hardware as a whole, it is the best Chromebook for seniors and the same Chromebook for writers on a budget because of how well it performs for the price and how good it is in all the ways that really matter for Chrome OS.

In many ways, it’s like a smaller version of the Acer Chromebook Spin 13. The build quality is similar, and it’s also a laptop that can be folded into a tablet, but it costs half as much and has weaker internals and a worse screen.

Why do we Like the Chromebook 514?

The Acer Chromebook 514 is a mid-range Chromebook that is built and has a screen that is much better than it should be for the price. The base Celeron model isn’t very good, but the Pentium model strikes a good balance between quality and performance at a low budget for a Chrome OS machine. If you want to compare this Chromebook to another Acer Chromebook, read our review of the Acer Chromebook 15.

Pros:

It’s well made, has a good touch screen, and has long battery life.

Cons:

The base Celeron model isn’t very good.

Do You Know About the Display of Acer Chromebook 514?

On paper, the Chromebook 514’s screen is pretty standard for its price. It’s a 14-inch 19201080 IPS panel that supports touch, which is very common at this price point. Its brightness and color production, on the other hand, is surprisingly good for how much it costs.

It beats the much more expensive HP Chromebook x360 14’s display in terms of overall quality, but it won’t come close to a much more expensive Google Pixelbook i7. It’s much better than the horrible 1366768 TN panels that plagued the non-premium market a few years ago.

Acer Chromebook 514 Battery Performance:

The Chromebook 514 has a battery that lasts a long time. You can expect the battery to last about 9 to 10 hours. Which is more than enough for a normal workday with juice left over. It has a long battery life than the Asus Chromebook C523NA, which lasts only about 7 hours. It is about the same as the Asus Chromebook Flip C302.

Weight:

The Chromebook 514’s weight of 3.31 pounds is impressive. It’s not too heavy for the size of its screen, and it’s made of aluminum. Even though it has a 14″ screen, it’s not much heavier than some Chromebooks with a 12″ screen. This makes it great for students who don’t need a lot of power from their hardware.

What is the Durability of Acer Chromebook 514?

The Acer Chromebook 514 has great build quality for the price. It has solid hinges and is made of high-quality aluminum. Acer seems to be based on the Acer Swift line, so it’s a well-built machine with sturdy hinges and a very solid build. Acer Chromebook should hold up well over time.

How do You Know About the Ports of Acer Chromebook 514?

The Chromebook’s input options are exactly what you’d expect at this price. You can see a microSD card reader and an audio jack, as well as two USB Type C ports and two USB Type-A ports. One USB-C port can support display out with a dongle. But there’s no display-out port on the laptop itself; you’ll need to buy a dongle. It has a solid backlit keyboard with a good amount of travel and a comfortable feel overall.

Conclusions:

For the price, the Acer Chromebook 514 is a very good machine. Its full HD screen and great build quality are great for the price. The fact that it can run Android apps gets around Chrome OS’s poor program compatibility. It is latest technology. It would have been nice to see an Intel Core M or Core U at this price since similar Windows machines often come with similar hardware.

However, the Pentium model is good enough for Chrome OS. The only real problem with the machine’s hardware is that it doesn’t have enough storage or RAM, which doesn’t matter much for Chrome OS. If you’re looking for a good Chromebook, this is one to consider, as long as you can afford the Pentium version.
