Best Drop-Down Longboards

by Uneeb Khan

Best Drop-Down Longboards. Drop-down longboards come with a distinct design that places the part of the deck you stand (aka the platform for standing feet) more affixed to the ground than the points for mounting trucks.

The drop-down deck curves, and is lowered between the trucks, so that your feet are lower on the floor than mounting holes.

Thus, the center of gravity will be lower on a drop-down as compared to other longboards including drop-throughs. Here are five of the most popular drop-down lengthboards on the market (Amazon link):

  1. Atom Drop Deck 41”
  2. Globe Bannerstone 41”
  3. Landyachtz Switch 40”
  4. Santa Cruz 36”

Let’s take a deep dive into these four top drop-down longboards. We’ll also go over why drop-down boards are so distinctive.

Update: also take a look at the brand new Sector 9 Fault Line drop-down longboard (I’ll shortly include it in this list)

Its Atom drop deck ( Amazon) is extremely well-known due to its affordable price (around hundred dollars) and good quality.

I’ve added it to this list as it’s an excellent low-riding drop-down for beginners or a more experienced rider seeking something simple to move and commute on to the top of the hill, or even learn how to slide onto.

Measured at 41” x 9.5 inches The Atom Drop Deck is a massive, sturdy (relatively massive) deck made of the solid, 9-ply Maple.

It features a substantial drop that makes it far from the floor, making it extremely stable and extremely comfortable for pushing distances.

It is Atom can also be a great carving board because of its large wheel cutouts that permit precise turns, without wheelbite.

These 50o RKP trucks are top quality knock-offs that help allow for a smooth ride and responsive, despite the size of the Atom.

The 70mm wide and lipped Atom wheels are quick and grippy, perfect to downhill carving and commute.

They have a soft durometer of 78A together along with the Atom deck’s slight flex assists in dampening the ride easily on uneven pavements and sidewalks.

Overall The Atom Drop Deck is a high-quality drop-down longboard ideal for commuting as well as freeriding. The deck’s shape is effective and quality components create a responsive sturdy, stable, and comfortable board to build and ride on.

It’s not the most transportable longboard however that’s not what it was designed to be. Riders have found that lubricating the bearings with speed cream significantly enhances the performance of the board.

Review the Atom Drop Deck’s cost and the numerous positive review from Amazon.

2. Globe Bannerstone drop-down longboard review

Globe Bannerstone Globe Bannerstone is a spacious 41 inches by 9.75 drop-down longboard that has a large 32.5 inches wheelbase that is specifically designed for speed and distance.

The drop-down platform is extremely low and gives you the stability required for speedy downhill riding. It makes pushing across long distances simple.

A 1” sloped, slanted drop offers a safe foot lock-in to throw big slides with greater speed and confidence. The deck is constructed of bamboo, making the Banerstone an extremely attractive board.

It also offers some flex, but it doesn’t affect stability at speeds. There is also a small side-to side concave to give a comfortable ride when you’re riding at speed.

One small note about this deck is that the top of the deck may reach the ground when you hit a huge bump.

The Bannerstone is equipped with the 180mm Slant 50o reverse Kingpin trucks, which makes the board responsive and smooth for pushing distance and commuting.

The trucks are also sturdy and responsive enough to allow you to move faster on hills that are steeper. The 72mm wheels are swift and comfortable enough (78A) to ride smoothly on all types of terrain.
